    With almost 53 rig-years of work added in April 2022, it was the month that saw the largest increase in new backlog over the past year.

    New Offshore Rig Backlog Has Slowed Since April

    With almost 53 rig-years of work added in April 2022, it was the month that saw the largest increase in new backlog over the past year. Backlog has been on a downward trend since then, but overall, there has been a general increase since late 2021. The total backlog of 890 rig-years on the books as of late June has not dropped below the 12-month low point of about 875 rig-years seen in November 2021. Jackups have contributed the most with about 258 rig-years added over the past 12 months, followed by drillships with 56 rig-years and semisubmersibles with 45 rig-years.—Cinnamon Edralin, Esgian
