RIO DE JANEIRO – Petrobras has opened the bidding process for a new FPSO for the giant Búzios field in the presalt Santos basin.
The P-80 platform will be the field’s ninth floater, capable of processing 225,000 b/d of oil and 12 MMcm/d of gas.
Alongside the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, currently under construction, it will be Brazil’s largest oil production system, and should start operations in 2026.
Petrobras will issue an EPC contract to the successful bidder, with the terms incorporating lessons learned from other presalt FPSOs, including contracting and construction aspects.
Búzios, discovered in 2010, is heading for production above 2 MMboe/d by the end of the 2020s.
At present four FPSOs are operating at the field, which supplies more than 20% of Petrobras’ total production. The fifth and sixth FPSOs will be Almirante Barroso and Almirante Tamandaré, while the seventh and eighth units (P-78 and P-79) are also in the contracting phase.
