Lankhorst slings support BorWin 5 offshore jacket installation
Lankhorst Ropes has provided high-capacity, heavy-lift slings to Allseas’ Pioneering Spirit vessel for the recent transport and lowering of a 7,300-mt jacket for a converter platform.
The installation formed part of the German offshore wind project BorWin 5 in the German North Sea. The Gama 98 slings held the jacket in position above Pioneering Spirit’s Stern during the two-day journey to the offshore installation site.
Lankhorst added that its heavy-lift slings are part of the vessel’s jacket lifting system for platform installation and decommissioning projects.
The eight 25-m slings feature a Gama 98 ultra-heavy-lift rope construction, with the ropes manufactured in Portugal to a length tolerance of +/- 1.5%.
Pioneering Spirit’s jacket lift system has six blocks to guide the slings; each block is equipped with two "endless" sling constructions. For the BorWin 5 project, the slings were proof loaded according to DNV-ST-N001.
The slings will continue to be deployed for the vessel’s future jacket installation and decommissioning projects, each of which have a different load profile during lifting and transportation.
Late last year, Delmar Systems subcontracted Lankhorst Offshore to provide mooring lines to Archer Wind for the Culzean field floating offshore wind turbine in the UK central North Sea. Lankhorst Cabral 512 polyester mooring lines will be installed at the location in 90 m water depth.
