LA CIOTAT, France — BW Ideol and Holcim have signed a memorandum of understanding concerning the provision of low-carbon concrete for floating offshore wind farm structures.

The two companies aim to collaborate on supply of concrete for the intended mass production of BW Ideol’s floaters in the Port of Ardersier in northeast Scotland.

According to BW Ideol, low-carbon concrete’s benefits include durability in marine environments, local availability and relatively low carbon emissions.

The parties intend to develop durable maritime low-carbon concrete mixes with a mechanical performance suited to slipform application. Holcim will apply research and products generated at its global innovation center in France.

It will also look to develop the local supply chain, in particular through its subsidiary Aggregate Industries, a UK supplier of construction materials.
