POINTE-NOIRE, Republic of Congo – The foundation stone has been laid for Congo’s first LNG project.
Operator Eni expects production capacity to reach about 3 MMt per year from 2025 onward.
Congo LNG will convert gas from the offshore Marine XII Block for use in domestic power generation and for exports to international markets, mainly in Europe.
Two floating LNG (FLNG) plants will serve already producing Nenè and Litchendjili fields and others to be developed in future.
Tango, the first FLNG, is being converted to accommodate a capacity of 0.6 MM metric tons per year at a nearshore location and should enter production in 2023. The program includes installing an additional platform and drilling 12 wells.
The second—under construction—will be operational in 2025 with a capacity of 2.4 MMt per year. For this project, Eni will add eight further platforms and drill 29 wells. Floaters Spa will own both FLNGs.
