PARIS, FranceTotalEnergies has started production from the Akpo West Field development on the PML2 license, 135 km offshore Nigeria.

The field is tied back to the Akpo FPSO, which produced 124,000 boe/d last year and has been in service since 2009. By the middle of this year, Akpo West should contribute 14,000 bbl/d of condensate and up to 4 MMcm/d of gas by 2028.

According to the company, the project’s carbon emissions should be under 5 kg CO2e/boe.

“After Ikike in 2022, TotalEnergies is pleased to start production of another tieback project in Nigeria, Akpo West, which will contribute to maintaining the production of the existing Akpo facilities by developing additional nearby resources,” said Mike Sangster, senior vice president, President Africa, Exploration and Production.

The company operates PML2 with a 24% interest, with partners CNOOC (45%), Sapetro (15%), Prime 130 (16%) and state-owned NNPC as the concessionaire of the production sharing contract.
