Caspian Sea ACG platform joins billion-barrel club

The Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) oil field’s West Azeri platform in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea has produced its one-billionth barrel of oil.

BAKU, AzerbaijanThe Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) oil field’s West Azeri platform in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea has produced its one-billionth barrel of oil in late December 2023.

Partners in the ACG project include SOCAR, MOL, INPEX, Equinor, Exxon Mobil, TPAO, ITOCHU and ONGC Videsh.

West Azeri, which came onstream in December 2005, is one of seven ACG production platforms that to date have produced a collective 4.3 Bbbl, according to operator bp.

Central Azeri also passed the billion-barrel milestone in July 2021.

Currently, about 200 people work on West Azeri, with more than 40 wells and multiple sidetracks drilled since 2005, of which 26 producers and nine water injectors are active.

One of the first wells to come online, C-06, has generated 80 MMbbl to date.

West Azeri presently produces 85,000 bbl/d.
