MAASTRICHT, the Netherlands — SteelTrace is collaborating with Subsea7 on its first pipeline project in the North Sea.

The company had developed a quality management software platform that uses blockchain and cloud computing to improve traceability and efficiency in the steel supply chain.

For the North Sea project, SteelTrace will gather data from manufacturers and automatically cross-reference it against project requirements.

Converting these data into a "digital manufacturing record book," the company added, should benefit both suppliers and the operator, which can use the data for life extension studies, root cause analyses and turnaround simulations.

Steel pipes offshore must withstand harsh conditions with improved quality control required for welding precision. According to SteelTrace, the data capture process ensures that all critical information is recorded, with no need for a time-consuming manual data review.
