Subsea boosting and processing technologies are expected to be key enablers in improving resource recovery in deepwater and marginal fields. While the deployment of the technologies is still in the early stages, demand is set to increase. Over $140 billion in deepwater spending is forecast over the next five years with subsea spending expected to more than double during this period compared to the previous five years, according to Douglas Westwood. The company says it expects to see 186 subsea boosting applications over the next 10 years, as well as many separation systems and multi-phase meters.
Early adapters of this technology include BP, Total, and StatoilHydro. BP has installed subsea pumps on King in the US Gulf of Mexico; Total is using subsea separation on Pazflor offshore Angola; and StatoilHydro is considering subsea compression on Ormen Lange offshore Norway.
On March 31, in a webcast available on-demand, a panel of industry experts will discuss the subsea technology adapted for the respective projects. The presentations were captured at PennWell’s Deep Offshore Technology International Conference & Exhibition in Perth, Australia.
