Frequently Asked Questions

What is RSS?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an XML-based format for distribution of content. RSS feeds allow your favorite news, topics, products, blogs and more to appear in your RSS reader as they are posted, without having to visit the Web site.

RSS feeds require an RSS reader tool to function. Most readers are free and only require downloading and installation on your computer.

Establishing an RSS feed.

PennWell Co. and Offshore offer a variety of RSS feeds with headlines, descriptions and links back to the Web site for the full story.

Once an RSS reader has been installed on your computer, click the XML RSS link next to the category you desire. Then follow your RSS readers instructions to insert the RSS feed. In most cases, the process is very easy and may only require a few steps to activate. However, the process may vary from reader to reader.

In addition, you must abide by the Terms of Use.

How can I get an RSS reader?

Below are a few popular standalone applications or Web-based options you may find useful.

RSS TERMS OF USE

RSS (really simple syndication) service is a means by which PennWell Corporation ("PennWell") offers feeds of story or other headlines in XML format ("RSS Content") to visitors to Offshore (the "PennWell Site") who use RSS aggregators. These RSS Terms of Use govern your (the user's) use of the RSS service at the PennWell Site. The use of the RSS service also is subject to PennWell's standard site terms and conditions, which govern the use of PennWell's websites, information services, and content. These RSS Terms of Use and PennWell's standard site terms and conditions may be changed by PennWell at any time without notice. Continued use of the RSS service and the PennWell Site constitute your acceptance of such modified terms.

Use of RSS Feeds:

RSS is a free service offered by PennWell to individuals for personal, non-commercial use. Any other uses, including without limitation the incorporation of advertising into or the placement of advertising associated with or targeted towards the RSS Content, are strictly prohibited. You must use the RSS Content only as provided by PennWell, and you may not edit or modify the text, content, or links supplied by PennWell. To request permission for a particular use not permitted by these RSS Terms of Use, please contact customer care at rss@pennwell.com.

Link to Content Pages:

The RSS service may be used only with those platforms from which a functional link is made available that, when accessed, takes the viewer directly to the display of the full article on the PennWell Site. You may not display the RSS Content in a manner that does not permit successful linking to, redirection to, or delivery of the applicable PennWell Site web page. You may not insert any intermediate page, splash page, or other content between the RSS Content and the applicable PennWell Site web page.

Ownership/Attribution:

PennWell retains all ownership and other rights in the RSS Content, and any and all PennWell logos and trademarks used in connection with the RSS service. You must provide attribution to the appropriate PennWell web site in connection with your use of the RSS Content. If you provide this attribution using a graphic, you must use the appropriate PennWell web site's logo that PennWell has incorporated into the RSS Content.

Right to Discontinue Feeds:

PennWell reserves the right to discontinue providing any or all of the RSS Content at any time and to require you to cease displaying, distributing, or otherwise using any or all of the RSS Content for any or no reason including, without limitation, your violation of any provision of these RSS Terms of Use. PennWell disclaims any and all liability for any of your activities in connection with the RSS Content or for your use of the RSS Content in connection with your website or otherwise.
