OSLO -- Statoil’s latest exploration well in the Norwegian Sea has failed to find hydrocarbons. Well 6608/10-13, was drilled in a water depth of 384 m (1,260 ft) by the semisubmersible Ocean Vanguard around 10 km (6.2 mi) east of the Norne field in the Norwegian Sea.
According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate, the aim was to prove petroleum in reservoir rocks from the Lower Jurassic (the Åre formation). The well encountered rocks of the anticipated thickness and medium to good reservoir quality.
This is the first exploration well in production license 47, awarded under Norway’s APA 2006 licensing round. The well, which was drilled to TVD of 1,420 m (4,659 ft) below sea level, will be permanently plugged and abandoned.
The rig will next drill a wildcat for Statoil in Norwegian Sea license 159 B.
