OSLO, Norway -- Norway’s Ministry of Petroleum and Energy has approved BG Norge’s development plan for the Gaupe oil and gas field.

Gaupe, formerly known as Phi, is in license PL292, close to the Norway/UK maritime boundary, and 12 km (7.5 mi) south of the Varg field.

The development involves a two well subsea tieback to BG’s Armada platform in the UK central North Sea, where the transported hydrocarbons will undergo processing before heading to the UK mainland.

Lundin Oil, BG’s partner in the project estimates the field’s reserves at around 28 MMboe, with first production anticipated in late 2011.
