HOUSTON -- WesternGeco has begun acquisition of the E-Octopus VIII and E-Octopus IX surveys in the Alaminos Canyon, Keathley Canyon, and East Breaks areas of the US Gulf of Mexico. The surveys cover more than 450 outer continental shelf (OCS) blocks.
WesternGeco will apply the latest seismic data processing techniques to the surveys, including Generalized Surface Multiple Prediction (GSMP) and anisotropic Reverse Time Migration (RTM).
The E-Octopus multi-client wide-azimuth program in the GoM began in July 2006. With the addition of E-Octopus VIII and IX, the WesternGeco library of GoM Q-Marine data will exceed 2000 OCS blocks, the company says.
“These new E-Octopus programs will provide value through improved imaging, resulting in reduced drilling risk,” says Thomas Scoulios, North America region manager for WesternGeco. “WesternGeco has executed nine multi-client wide-azimuth surveys to date, and client interest continues to be very high.”
