EOR crucial offshore says study

TULSA, Oklahoma ? A major campaign of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) in offshore fields will be crucial for sustaining the world's future oil supply, says petroleum consultant Dr. Rafael Sandrea.

In a study "Future Oil & Gas Supply: A Quantitative Analysis", to be released in May by the Oil & Gas Journal Research Center, Sandrea says less than 25% of the world's offshore oil reserves have been produced to date and that opens the door for a big EOR push. He also says that EOR is more cost-effective in adding reserves than exploration or acquisition.

Sandrea will present data from his study at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 7, at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston.
