Transocean Shelf Explorer begins Veninsky block drilling

MOSCOW -- The self elevating floating drilling rig Transocean Shelf Explorer has begun a two-well drilling program on the Veninsky block for the Sakhalin-3 project, according to operator Veninneft.

The first well is 10 km (6.2 mi) from shore, in water depths of 25 m (82 ft). The second well is on the North Veninsky structure, 9 km (5.6 mi) offshore in water depths of 21 m (69 ft). The drilling operations will last until the middle of October, the company reports.
