RIO DE JANEIRO -- Operator OGX has struck oil with the 1-OGX-5-RJS well in block BM-C-43 in the shallow waters of the southern part of the Campos basin.
The Ocean Ambassador drilled the well to 4,100 m (13,451 ft) encountering hydrocarbons in carbonate reservoirs in the Albian and Aptian sections. Cable tests identified an oil-bearing column in the Maastrichtian section, from which oil samples were collected.
Based on the final well information combined with the 3D seismic data interpretation, OGX estimates recoverable oil volume for the Maastrichtian section between 30 and 90 MMbbl. The company will announce volume estimates for the Albian and Aptian reservoirs following drilling of additional wells.
In March, the rig is scheduled to move to BM-C-41 to drill a directional exploratory well near the Vesúvio prospect, test new targets, and further delineate the discovery.
