EDINBURGH, UK -- Cairn Energy will drill an exploration well on the Louza block offshore Tunisia in the next few months, using the jackup Ensco 85.

The company’s subsidiary Capricorn has operated the permit since acquiring medOil and Plectrum Petroleum in 2007. It also operates the Nabeul offshore permit. Capricorn has conducted site surveys for exploratory well locations in both concessions.

Offshore Albania, Capricorn operates the 2,512-sq km (970-sq mi) Joni-5 Production Sharing Contract, in water depths up to 1,000 m (3,281 ft). Cairn says results from a 3D seismic survey over this acreage late last year are encouraging, and may lead to drilling of an exploration well in 2011.

Elsewhere, Cairn has initiated a 3D seismic program over its Magnama discovery in the Bay of Bengal offshore Bangladesh.
