SAN RAMON, California -- Production has begun from the Mafumeira Norte project offshore Angola, according to Chevron.

The Mafumeira Norte project is the first phase development of the Mafumeira field in Area A of block 0. Production is being achieved through fourteen wells that are connected to the existing Kungulo water injection platform. The development is expected to reach maximum total production of 30,000 b/d of crude oil and 30 MMcf/d of natural gas in 2011.

The EPCI contract for the Mafumeira Norte platform was awarded to Sonamet (Lobito), a joint venture between Sonangol and Acergy, marking the first time Sonamet was awarded such a contract, according to Chevron. The fabrication of the platform was completed at Sonamet’s Lobito yard in southern Angola.

Chevron, through CABGOC, operates block O with a 39.2% working interest. Partners are SONANGOL P&P (41%), Total (10%) and ENI (9.8%).
