Phillips's Ekofisk Chalk Exploration Project (CEP), a massive multidisciplinary effort by Phillips, its partners Agip, Elf, Fina, and Total, and Landmark Graphics, has produced a semi-regional geoscientific study of Norway's PLO18, in the Greater Ekofisk Area, Phillips's principal production area worldwide, at over 310,000 b/d. The partners are investing almost $3 billion in new infrastructure to prolong production through 2028, when the license expires.

SATELLITE GRAVITY MAPPING Petroscan mapping, interpreting India's offshore geology

On Petroscan's Bouguer Gravity map of Canada's Eastern Continental Margin, areas of mass deficit representing basement depressions where sedimentary deposition may have taken place are shown in blue. This corresponds closely to the central part of the Jeanne d'Arc Basin, in which discoveries have been made. The merits of satellite gravity mapping have been recognized by India's Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH), which has contracted Petroscan to map all its offshore

SEISMIC ACQUISITION From targeting submarines to acquiring accurate 3D seismic

In the rapidly occurring geophysical revolution that's transforming the petroleum exploration industry these days, numerous new techniques are being introduced that purport to lower the cost of acquisition, make it easier, faster, more accurate, or a combination of all of these. One such innovation that actually appears to achieve all these goals is the new vertical cable seismic acquisition technology developed by Paul Krail and Dwight Sukup, geophysicists at Texaco's exploration and

VIETNAM Geologic reappraisal reveals potential of Song Hong blocks

Licensed and available blocks in the Gulf of Tonkin. Vietnam's government is attempting to regenerate exploration in the Gulf of Tonkin, following presentations by state oil company PetroVietnam in London and Houston late last year.
