The hook-up of the production well EBB-3 in the El Bibane field offshore Tunisia has been completed. Production is not yet stabilized as the oil production rates are increasing as the well continues to clean up, the company says.
The latest oil production from the well exceeds 1,000 b/d. The production also includes significantly higher levels of condensate, which has been separately tested at approximately 70 bbl per MMcf of gas, almost double the company’s anticipated ratio.

VetcoGray, a GE Oil & Gas business, has converted an exploration well to full production at Agiba Petroleum Co.’s West Ashrafi hydrocarbon facility in Egypt’s Gulf of Suez, Red Sea.
This is the first time VetcoGray has converted a mudline exploration system to an SG-1 wellhead subsea system for production duty. The newly converted well entered service in April 2008.
The conversion system eliminates significant cost and risk for Agiba because the company no longer needs to re-enter the reservoir from a new wellhead, says Willie Bryson, VetcoGray’s product line manager for Tree on Mudline.
Additional challenges for the project were the distance between the beach-mounted topside equipment (umbilical termination and hydraulic power units) and the master control station 1 km (0.6 mi) away. A separate communications and power system was used for subsea communications, while fiber optic communications were used between the HPU/TUTU and the MCS.
Based in Cairo, Egypt, Agiba Petroleum Co. is a joint venture company between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corp. (EGPC) and ENI.

Gas production from the Taurt field began at the beginning of July, according to BP Egypt. The field is in Ras El Bar concession, 70 km (43.5 mi) offshore in the northeast of Port Said, East Nile Delta.
The project is executed and operated by Gulf of Suez Petroleum Co. a joint venture between Egyptian General Petroleum Corp. and BP.
The parties to Ras El Bar Offshore Concession agreement are operator BP Egypt, and IEOC, the affiliate of ENI in Egypt, each holding 50% interest.

“Taurt is BP’s first subsea development in Egypt and also the first of what we plan to be a program of subsea developments. Its successful delivery represents a new milestone in recovery of gas from the Mediterranean Sea,” says Hesham Mekawi, president of BP Egypt.
The Taurt project is an offshore development with a subsea production system, two subsea wells, and a 70-km (43.5-mi) pipeline and control umbilical tied back to upgraded facilities at the existing West Harbor processing plant.

CNOOC has acquired the Bozhong (BZ) 29-5 oil and gas discovery in the Yellow River Mouth Sag of Bohai Bay.
The wildcat BZ29-5-1, drilled on structure BZ 29-5, encountered oil pay zones of 26.2 m (86 ft), the company says. The well was drilled to 1,885 m (6,184 ft) TD, with a water depth of about 21 m (69 ft).
