EMGS introduces integrated EM system

Gene Kliewer,
Technology Editor, Subsea & Seismic

ROME – Electromagnetic Services ASA today introduced Clearplay to the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers at the EAGE annual conference and exhibition.

Clearplay is the first-ever fully integrated controlled source electromagnetic exploration system, EMGS said. It includes three elements, Find, Test, and Evaluate, which combine to improve exploration efficiency, reduce cost, and reduce risk. Find is directed at generating leads, Test is applied prior to drilling

"In combination, Clearplay gives a clearer, more complete subsurface picture for better exploration and development decisions," said Ken Feather, vice president of Marketing for EMGS.

To expand on that, Terje Eidesmo, CEO, said that Clearplay responds to the industry need to quickly deliver a significant improvement in exploration efficiency and productivity.

Clearplay Find aims to generate leads and prospects. Generally it consists of the initial CSEM survey and onboard data processing. Clearplay Test aims to more accurately rank the prospects to reduce the commercial risk. Clearplay Evaluate aims to improve certainty in appraisal and development plan decisions. Evaluate is the biggest advancement in Clearplay, Feather said, as it "assesses the reserves in place which addresses the economic risk of development." Evaluate includes a new 3D inversion tool and interfaces with Petrel for combined 3D presentation in conjunction with seismic and other existing exploration data.

Commercial release of Clearplay is scheduled for 4Q 2008.
