Eni plans Longhorn development

Offshore staff

MILAN, Italy -- Eni plans initial production from the Longhorn gas field in the Gulf of Mexico to begin in March 2009 and to reach peak production of 200 MMcf/d of gas.

Longhorn is in MC 502 and 546 some 195 km (121 mi) southeast of New Orleans in 730 m (2,400 ft) of water.

Eni says the makor subsea equipment contracts have been let and installation contracts are bing awarded. The Transocean Amirante rig will be used starting 3Q 2008 to conduct well completion operations. Plans call for Longhorn to consist of three subsea wells tied back 32 km (20 mi) to the Crystal platform.

Longhorn is operated by Eni with a 75% working interest, while Nexen Petroleum Offshore U.S.A. Inc. owns 25%.
