DOT in Monaco to emphasize challenges

The Deep Offshore Technology International Conference and Exhibition is scheduled for Nov. 3- 5, 2009, at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Eldon Ball,Offshore’s editor-in-chief and director of Offshore conferences for PennWell, says the conference enables operators, equipment manufacturers, contractors, and service providers to introduce deepwater solutions.

“For 20 years, DOT has provided a forum to address technical issues, introduce pioneering technology, and discuss lessons learned while exploring, developing, and producing oil and gas in deep and ultra deepwater basins around the world,” Ball says. “DOT has provided a conference where knowledge is shared and distributed throughout the industry. Through this sharing, the industry increases its understanding of the challenges and solutions involved in deepwater and ultra deepwater operating conditions.”

The DOT 2009 emphasis is on “Rising to the Deepwater Challenges.” The conference and exhibition officially opens on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Antoine Serceau, senior VP of project construction for Total E&P, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address. He will present an update on deep offshore developments, portfolio, and technical challenges. Serceau graduated in engineering from the Institut Catholique des Arts et Métiers in Lille.

Tony Mace, CEO of SBM Offshore, is to present the industry perspective. He holds a degree in mechanical engineering and naval architecture, and masters degree in ocean engineering from London University. Mace has 35 years of experience in the offshore industry.

John Westwood, chairman of Douglas Westwood, is scheduled to discuss the industry forecast. His firm works as strategy advisers to industry, governments and presidential offices worldwide and a leading provider of commercial due-diligence services to investment houses and the energy industry.

The DOT conference will operate on three tracks.

The Tuesday schedule for track one is three sessions on floating production systems. Michael W.J. Wyllie, SBM Offshore, will chair the first session. Scheduled to speak are Marco van Vugt, HMC US Inc.; Rene de Koeijer, Heerema Marine Contractors; and Dr. Steve Leverette, SBM Atlantia. The second session will be chaired by Pierre-Armand Thomas, Technip. Edwin Nah, Keppel DTG; and Dr. Neil Williams, SBM Atlantia, are expected to speak. The third session will be chaired by Claude Valenchon, Saipem. Speakers include Brian Roberts, Technip; and Nicolas Jestin, Saipem.

Tuesday’s schedule for track two includes two sessions on subsea processing and one on flowlines and pipelines. Jean Ropers of GEP will chair the subsea processing session. Arne Olsen, Framo Engineering; Boris Carlier, Saipem; and Rune Fantoft, FMC CDS Separation Technology, are expected to speak. Frederic Garnaud of Total E&P will chair the second subsea processing session. Robert Di Silvestro, Saipem; and Pradeep Dass, CAN-K Group of Companies are expected to speak. Jan T. Lisztwan of Nexen Petroleum USA will chair the flowlines and pipelines session. Steven Woolley of Tracerco is expected to speak.

Track three’s schedule for Tuesday is to include sessions on field development experience, asset management, and flow assurance. Pierre-Armand Thomas of Technip will chair the field development experience session. Expected speakers include Kim Lyngberg, Saipem UK; Dr. Nils Terje Nordsve, StatoilHydro; and Laurent Agussol, SBM. The asset management session is to be chaired by Francesco Paone of Mellitah Oil and Gas BV. Wajih Effendi, Booz & Co.; and Mattijs Faber, IHC Merwede Offshore & Marine, are expected to speak. Christian Geertsen of ITP InTerPipe will chair the flow assurance session. Expected speakers are Van-Khoi Vu, Total; and Brad Dewalt, Granherne.

Tuesday will conclude with a reception sponsored by SBM Offshore.

On Wednesday David Morgan of Cameron and Jan T. Lisztwan of Nexen Petroleum USA Inc., will moderate a panel discussion on subsea boosting and processing. Panelists include: Jerome Woirin, Deep Offshore RD project manager, Total; K. Janardhanan, risk and integrity manager, INTECSEA; Giovanni Chiesa, coordinator, Deepwater Technology, Saipem; Knut Nyborg, VP subsea processing and boosting, Aker Solutions; and Arne Olsen, sales manager of pumps and subsea systems for the eastern hemisphere, Framo Engineering.

The first session for track one on Wednesday will focus on mooring & station-keeping. Bob Kipp, INTECSEA, will chair. Scheduled to speak are Brian Green, First Subsea Ltd.; Jørgen Høgmoe, Anchor Contracting; and Rinze van der Schuit, FibreMax BV. The second session will focus on floating production systems. John Murray, FloaTEC will chair. Jose Esteve Otegui, Bureau Veritas; and Gustavo Hernández-Garcia, Pemex E&P, are expected to speak. The final session of the day will focus on mooring and station-keeping. Bob Kipp, INTECSEA, will chair, and Thibaud Bigex, Total, and William Fronzaglia, DSM Dyneema, are scheduled to present.

Wednesday’s schedule for track two begins with a subsea intervention session. Arnt Olufsen of StatoilHydro will chair. Denis Divers, Marine Subsea; Alain Fidani, Cybernetix; and Dr. Chris Kocurek, Cameron, are expected to speak. Uri Nooteboom of INTECSEA will chair the flowlines and pipelines session. Expected to speak are Ronny Haldorsen, Nemo Engineering; and Meredith Taylor, Heerema Marine Contractors. Christian Geertsen of ITP InTerPipe will chair the next flowlines and pipelines session. Yves Chardard, Subsea Tech; and Daniel Carneiro, Bureau Veritas Groups are scheduled to speak.

Track three is scheduled to begin Wednesday with a system integrity session, chaired by Uri Nooteboom of INTECSEA. Carl-petter Halvorsen, Flexlife; Tasneem Abbasi, BMT Scientific Marine Services; and Julien Verdeil, Saipem, are scheduled to speak. David Paganie of PennWell will chair the well construction session. Dr. Anna Paula Duarte of Schlumberger, and Hank Rogers of Halliburton are expected to speak. Paganie also will chair the drilling operations session. Expected to speak are Jon Erik Borgen of Inocean, and Karim Jan of Subsea Riser Products.

Wednesday concludes with a champagne reception hosted by Monegasque government.

On Thursday, Jan T. Lisztwan, Nexem Petroleum USA, and David Paganie, PennWell, will moderate a panel discussion on future trends for marine operations. Panelists include: Alain Marion, head of marine operations, Technip; Massimo Fontolan, senior VP Sonsub, Saipem; Alain Fidani, innovation manager, Cybernetix; and Helge Navratil, leading adviser of platform marine operations, StatoilHydro.

Thursday’s track one session will cover project management. John Murray, FloaTEC will chair. Scheduled to present are Luiz Feijo, American Bureau of Shipping; Savya Rafai, Planstrat; and Gustavo Hernández-Garcia, Pemex E&P.

Thursday’s track two session will cover subsea technology. David Morgan of Cameron will chair. Expected speakers include Olav Brakstad, ClampOn AS; Brendan Hyland, WFS; and David Simpson, Cameron Flow Control.

Track three’s final session will cover risers and riser technology. Erwin Lammertink of Heerema Marine Contractors US will chair. Scheduled to speak are Jack Pollack, SBM Atlantia; Martin van Onna, Airborne Composite Tubulars; and Romain Vivet, Technip.

DOT 2009 concludes Thursday afternoon with remarks and recognition awards.

New technology

New technologies will be featured at the show, such as new deepwater mooring connectors from First Subsea Ltd. and Offspring International Ltd. The new connectors replace traditional H-link or plate links. The technology will be shown for the first time at DOT Monaco on the First Subsea booth G327 and Lankhorst Rope Offshore Division booth G120.
