Emerson Process Management group has created a new division in Scandinavia, Marine Solutions, combining the level-gauging technology of Rosemount in Sweden with the tank management solutions of Damcos in Denmark.
Damcos, acquired by Emerson earlier this year, had already worked together with Rosemount - best known for its Tankadar level-gauging technology - under a strategic partnership set up in 2004. Within the new business division, Per Simonsen is sales director for offshore projects, while Jan Wallberg has responsibility for sales to the LNG sector. The company has a dedicated product for LNG carriers called TankRadar CTS (custody transfer system).
“Customers will benefit from us being one organization,” Simonsen says. “We now have more focus on support during all phases of a project, from specification to operation of the vessel.”
Among Emerson’s Marine Solutions main products is Marine Tank Management, a system that provides complete monitoring and control of a ship’s tank-related functions, including level-gauging and transfer of contents. It comprises everything from sensors, instruments, power units, and control cabinets to the various components needed on and below deck, such as valves, actuators, level transmitters, and radars.
During 2006, the Rosemount TankRadar system was supplied to nine FPSO/FSO projects: AWE’sTui, ConocoPhillips’ Gas Concord, Devon’s Polvo, ExxonMobil’s Mondo, Pemex’s Yùum K’ak Náab, Pertamina’s Brotojoyo, Petrobras’ Cidade de Macae, PetroChina’s Federal 1, and Total’s Akpo. This year, the company has an order for Peak’s BW Peace FPSO project in Nigeria.
In the LNG carrier market, Rosemount TankRadar has a market share of approximately 66%. Sales have benefited from the newbuilding boom, with deliveries to 25 vessels in 2006 and 35 orders for systems to be delivered in 2007 and 2008.
