OSLO, Norway – Premier Oil Norge has Petroleum Safety Authority Norway’s consent to drill an exploration well in the southern Norwegian North Sea.

The jackupMaersk Guardian will drill well 3/7-10 S on the Myrhauk structure in production license 539, block 3/7. The location is 240 km (149 mi) from Lista on the Norwegian west coast.

Drilling is expected to get under way next month and last 62 days, depending on the outcome.

Statoil has decided to suspend the contracted semisubmersibleScarabeo 5 due to overcapacity in its rig portfolio.

The suspension will take effect once the rig has completed drilling of a well on theKristin field in the Norwegian Sea in mid-August and will remain in effect until March 1, 2016.

“We regret the need to suspendScarabeo 5, but we will do our utmost to resume our drilling operations earlier than planned at the time of suspending the rig,” says Jon Arnt Jacobsen, Statoil’s senior vice president of procurement.
