TEHRAN, Iran – National Iranian Gas Exports Co. (NIGEC) is aiming to negotiate a natural gas export contract with customers in India.

NIGEC managing director Alireza Kameli told news service Shana a consortium of several Indian firms governed by SAGE India had expressed willingness to buy gas, and had been waiting for sanctions against Iran to be lifted to set the process in motion.

Officials from SAGE have claimed that a 1,400-km (870-mi)subsea gas pipeline from Iran to India – the world’s largest – would only take three to four years to be completed, he added.

India decided to pull out of the proposed IPI pipeline project, traversing Pakistan, due to continuing border skirmishes and conflicts between New Delhi and Islamabad, Kaemli said.
