ZURICH, Switzerland – Hyundai Heavy Industries has ordered electrical and telecommunication systems from ABB for ADMA-OPCO’s Al Nasr full field development project offshore Abu Dhabi (Package 2).
Under the $100-million contract ABB will provide power management, power-from-shore and telecom systems, all interconnected.
The company claims to have pioneered power-from-shore for energy on platforms to help reduce emissions, simplify offshore operations, and improve working conditions by lowering noise levels.
TheNasr facilities will be powered by a 132-kV AC subsea ring cable from Das Island, about 160 km (99.4 mi) west of Abu Dhabi.
ABB’s power management package is based on System 800xA Extended Automation control system, which integrates the network of transformers and switchgears to allow safe and consistent operations. It includes an intelligent asset management system for predictive maintenance of equipment.
ABB will supply 28 bays of 132 kV gas-insulated switchgear for one onshore and two offshore platform installations as well as medium voltage products, including 33 kV gas-insulated and 11 kV and 6.6 kV air-insulated switchgear.
Additionally, it will deliver multiple types of transformers, shunt reactors, and associated equipment ranging from 500 kVA to 100 MVA, designed to minimize losses through the installation’s lifecycle; and a fully integrated telecommunication system to the Al Nasr super complex for internal and external communication and field security.
ABB will manage the project from its base in Norway, with equipment manufactured by its divisions in the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, and Norway. Delivery is scheduled for the 3Q 2016.
