Polar Empress starts 3D seismic acquisition duty in Barents Sea

Dolphin’s new high-capacity 3D seismic vessel Polar Empress is in full production, towing 14 streamers on the Maud Extension multi-client survey in the Norwegian sector of the Barents Sea.

OSLO, Norway – Dolphin’s new high-capacity 3D seismic vesselPolar Empress is in full production, towing 14 streamers on the Maud Extension multi-client survey in the Norwegian sector of the Barents Sea.

At the end of this month the vessel will mobilize for an unnamed exclusive contract lasting more than three months.

Polar Empress can operate up to 22 seismic streamers. Other features include an engine capacity of 22,800 KW, a bollard pull of more than 275 tons, and a top transit speed of more than 20 knots.

CEO Atle Jacobsen said: “[This] is the last high-end vessel in a series of six, rigged and delivered according to our business plan over the last four years. She will be one of the most advanced and powerful seismic vessels in the world, fully equipped with Schlumberger’s proven Q Marine single sensor systems, coupled with Dolphin’s towing and handling solutions.”

Kleven Yard in Norway delivered the vessel earlier this spring.
