Offshore staff
NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE, UK – GE Oil & Gas (NYSE:GE) has opened its new Innovation Centre in Newcastle, northeast England, which will develop technology for subsea fields.
The complex houses a wide range of testing equipment for flexible pipelines, and is said to simulate underwater conditions in some of the world’s harshest offshore regions.
GE’s focus will be on R&D for the next generation of flexibles for ultra-deepwater and high-pressure/high-temperature (HP/HT) reservoirs.
Teams are already investigating extending the water depth capability of GE’s large bore risers, and qualifying a new polymer grade for HP/HT markets.
The location is close to the company’s existing manufacturing facility for subsea flexibles, which recently unveiled two new storage carousels following a £15-million ($23.6-million) expansion.
This equipment is helping the company meet demand for larger-diameter pipelines for high-pressure wells.
