KASSEL, Germany – Wintershall and its partners have submitted a plan for development and operation (PDO) for the 180-MMboe Maria field in the Norwegian Sea to the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.
They plan to install two subsea templates tied back to several host platforms in the area.
The company estimates the total investments at around NOK 15.3 billion ($2 billion), including development drilling. Startup is scheduled for end-2018, with the field likely to remain in production for 23 years.
Maria is 20 km (12.4-mi) east of the Statoil-operated Kristin field and 45 km (28 mi) south of Stataoil’s Heidrun field in the Halten Terrace region. Wintershall operates the surrounding license, in partnership with Petoro and Centrica Resources.
The reservoir will be linked via a subsea tieback to the Kristin, Heidrun, and Åsgard B production platforms. Maria’s well stream will go to the Kristin platform for processing while supply of water for injection into the reservoir will come from the Heidrun platform and lift gas will be provided from Åsgard B via the Tyrihans D field subsea template.
Processed oil will be shipped to the Åsgard field for storage and offloading to shuttle tankers. Gas will be exported via a pipeline to the Åsgard Transport gas line to Kårstø.
Wintershall has awarded Subsea 7 a $300-million pipeline and subsea construction (PSC) contract for the project. The contractor will design, procure, and install three pipelines linking Maria to surrounding fields.
These comprise the 26-km (16-mi) production flowline, with a direct electrical heating (DEH) cable connected to the Kristin platform; the 46-km (28.6-mi) plastic-lined water injection pipeline from Heidrun; and the 22-km (13.7-mi) pipeline that will supply lift gas to Maria from Åsgard via the Tyrihans subsea field.
Additionally, Subsea 7 will install the subsea production system structures supplied by FMC Technologies subsidiary,FMC Kongsberg Subsea. These include two integrated templates, subsea manifolds and the production riser base at Kristin.
Finally, Subsea 7 will install the static control umbilicals supplied by FMC Kongsberg Subsea between Kristin and the Maria templates.
Statoil has commissioned Aibel to manage work related to the planned water injection from the Heidrun platform to the Maria field, under a NOK 860-million ($113.5-million) EPCI contract.
Aibel will increase the water injection capacity of Heidrun and perform tie-in of the water injection from the platform to the Maria field via a riser. The job includes various modifications necessary for the connection work.
In addition, Aibel will purchase and install new SRP filter packages, upgrade existing equipment, expand the riser balcony, move a lifeboat, and upgrade the platform’s control system.
The project, which will be managed from Aibel’s Haugesund office, will be completed in spring 2018.
