OSLO, Norway – The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has authorized Tullow Oil to drill well 6507/11-11 in the Norwegian Sea, using the semisubmersible Leiv Eiriksson.

The rig should start drilling after completing OMV’s dry hole well southeast of itsWisting oil discovery in the Barents Sea.

Tullow’s well will be around 14 km (8.7 mi) southeast of the Heidrun field and about 220 km (137 mi) west of the Njord field. It will be the first well on production license 591, awarded in February 2011.
