Statoil, Suncor get go-ahead for offshore Norway drilling

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has sanctioned two new exploration wells.

OSLO, Norway – The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has sanctioned two new exploration wells.

Statoil Petroleum has a drilling permit for well 6706/11-2, 22 km (13.7 mi) west of the Aasta Hansteen field in the Norwegian Sea.

The semisubmersibleTransocean Spitsbergen will drill the well, the second on production license 602.

Suncor Energy Norge has permission to use the semisubBorgland Dolphin to drill well 25/10-13 S in PL 571 in the central Norwegian North Sea.

This will be the first well on the license, awarded in February 2011, although there has been drilling previously within the area covered by the license.
