Arctic regulators hold first joint meeting

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Arctic Offshore Regulators Forum has held its initial meeting.

Consisting of regulators from the US, Canada, Russia, Iceland, Greenland, Finland, Sweden, and Norway, the AORF aims to develop cooperation among regulatory agencies to raise the safety levels of Arctic petroleum activities.

The exchange of information, best practice and relevant experience between the authorities of countries with offshore petroleum activities in the Arctic region is one of the forum’s principal objectives, according to technical director Finn Carlsen of the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway.

The next meeting is scheduled for October in Tromsø, Norway.
