STAVANGER, Norway -- Statoil has awarded Aibel a front end engineering design (FEED) study for the Oseberg Future Development Brownfield Topside project in the Norwegian North Sea.

There is an option in the contract for the subsequent engineering services, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) program.

TheOseberg project involves linking a new unmanned wellhead platform (UWP) to the existing Oseberg B facility and to Oseberg A, which will supply the UWP with power, control, and chemical injection.

Additionally, the project calls for modifications to the Oseberg Field Center concerning connection of Kappa wells via the existing Vestflanken subsea pipeline.

Aibel will manage the work from its new office in Bergen, where up to 29 associates will be drawn into the study phase. If Statoil gives the go-ahead to proceed to the EPCI phase, Aibel expects to employ 45 staff on average with a total of 165,000 man-hours.

Work on the FEED will continue until October, with the EPCI contract due to start around the turn of the year, lasting through end-2017.
