WASHINGTON, D.C. – North Carolina’s governor Pat McCrory has called for offshore energy exploration during testimony to a Congressional Committee hearing on US President Obama’s Offshore Energy Plan.

“Energy development is good for the country’s energy independence and good forNorth Carolina jobs and future careers,” Governor McCrory said. “Let’s get this process started now.”

Prior to any lease sale or resource development, McCrory said North Carolina must update decades-old geological and geophysical information through new seismic imaging. He called on theBureau of Ocean Energy Management to complete its review of the permit applications for seismic surveys by the end of this year.

McCrory also called for review of the plan’s 50-mi (80-km) offshore exclusion zone, saying it would block access to much of North Carolina’s most accessible potential.
