HELSINKI, FINLAND – Two new jackup barges ordered by National Petroleum Construction Co. (NPCC) in the UAE will feature integrated Wärtsilä power generation and electrical and automation (E&A) solutions.

The Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC) shipyard in Chang Xing Island, China, is building theSEP 650 and SEP 750 vessels.

For each vessel Wärtsilä will supply three 8-cylinder Wärtsilä 20 generating sets, an emergency generating set and the full E&A system. The equipment is expected to be delivered this summer.

Wärtsilä’s comprehensive packages provide benefits to the yard in terms of efficiency and helping it reduce its scheduling risks, claimed area sales director Hans Laheij.

Previously the company supplied electrical systems, including the generating sets, transformers and full E&A requirements for NPCC’sSEP 450 and SEP 550 jackup barges.

The new barges will supplementNPCC’s fleet of offshore vessels supporting its shallow and deepwater operations.
