OSLO, Norway – Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) Norway has cleared Lundin Norway for exploration drilling in the Barents Sea.
The semisubmersibleIsland Innovator will likely start drilling well 7220/11-2 in production license 609 this month. The operation could last up to 62 days, depending on the outcome.
PSA has formed a working group to examine ways of cutting the costs of rig moves between shelves in theNorth Sea, following a request from Norway’s Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.
The group will develop proposals to help streamline movements of rigs onto and off the Norwegian continental shelf. The impact of measures on occupational health and safety will also form part of the assessment.
In the southern Norwegian North Sea, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has authorized Statoil to drill exploration well 2/4-23 in PL 146, using the jackupMærsk Gallant.
Saga Petroleum was originally awarded the concession in 1988 under Norway’s 12th licensing round. The license encompasses parts of block 2/4.
The well will be drilled about 18 km (11.2 mi) from theEkofisk field.
