SINGAPORE – Geoscience Australia has contracted the Gardline CGG joint venture’s vessel Duke to acquire the Gippsland 2D infill marine seismic survey offshore Victoria.

The expected start date is April 6.

The survey is part of the National CO2 Infrastructure Plan to aid in the identification of potential sites suitable for the long-term storage of CO2 in Australia. It will cover roughly 800 line km (497 mi) in the Gippsland basin.

Gardline CGG said the vessel was chosen for its ability to acquire 2D seismic, multi-beam bathymetry and sub-bottom profiling concurrently on all lines.

At the end of the program additional multi-beam bathymetric/sub-bottom profiling survey will be performed to infill between seismic lines.

This will be the venture’s second project for Geoscience Australia in 2015 following completion of the Houtman 2D survey.
