TORSHAVN, Faroe Islands – The semisubmersible Transocean Spitsbergen has spudded the Roald Rygg exploration well 6706/12-3 for operator Statoil in license PL602 in the Norwegian Sea.
According to partner Atlantic Petroleum, the planned depth is around 3,420 m (11,220 ft) TVD and operations should last 35 days.
The main target is the Nise formation; the Kvitnos formation is the secondary target.
The prospect is close to the recentSnefrid North discovery (well 6706/12-2) in PL218, which encountered a 105-m (344-ft) gas column and 4 m (13 ft) of oil in the Nise formation.
There are other prospects and leads in PL602, Atlantic adds, in an area within touching distance of Statoil’sAasta Hansteen field development which is due to come onstream in 2017.
