MOSCOW – LUKOIL-Nizhnevolzhskneft claims to have established a new world record in horizontal drilling in the Russian sector of the Caspian Sea.
Well No.108, drilled from an ice-resistant stationary platform at theYuri Korchagin field, proceeded for 4,908 m (16,102 ft) in the 9.5-in., in one run, without any tripping.
The new record has been confirmed in the Schlumberger/Smith Bits world database. Lukoil says it also achieved the previous record while drilling well No.103, which led to discovery of the field’s two oil-bearing strata.
Well No. 108, drilled to a depth of 1,565 m (5,134 ft), is 8,005 m (26,263 ft) long.
