On behalf ofOffshore magazine and the entire PennWell Corp., I am pleased to welcome you to the 19th annual Offshore West Africa Conference & Exhibition, Jan. 20-22, 2015, at the Eko Hotel & Suites on Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.

Held under the auspices of Nigerian National Petroleum Corp., this edition of Offshore West Africa seeks to address one of the oil and gas industry’s greatest challenges – managing major projects. This issue is particularly prevalent in West Africa where the industry is increasingly taking on complex deepwater developments while managing persistent capex and opex inflation.

In the conference program, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Co. will share lessons learned from managing the production profile of Nigeria’s first deepwater project, Bonga. The operator recently completed an extension, Bonga Northwest, which is expected to contribute 40,000 boe/d to maintain production. Meanwhile, sanction of a further extension, Bonga Southwest, is imminent.

Total, another major deepwater operator, is expected to offer insight into the concept selection and project management challenges of the recently sanctioned, Egina. The initial development plan calls for 44 wells to be connected to an FPSO.

The technical sessions also includes thought leaders with presentations on the latest technological solutions for marginal field development, enhanced oil recovery, subsea boosting and processing, well intervention, asset integrity management, corrosion control, and much more.

Anchoring the program is the traditional local content panel discussion. Government officials and industry professionals will convene to discuss a number of pressing issues, including the challenges of implementing regulatory reform, corporate social responsibility, new investment opportunities, growing local capacities, and managing talent.

I trust you will find Offshore West Africa 2015 an ideal platform for networking, sharing technical and business solutions, and continuing education.

Sincerely,

David Paganie
