OWA 2015: Seawater injection: challenges, treatment philosophies, geographic locations, and best practices

Baker Hughes Deepwater Engineer Daniel Fakunle will provide a geographic overview for the various treatment philosophies, along with some suggested industry best practices for seawater injection systems.

Seawater injection is performed to maintain reservoir pressure for production purposes and as secondary means of recovery to sweep oil from the reservoir into the producer wells.

In his paper, entitled, “Seawater injection: challenges, treatment philosophies, geographic locations, and best practices,” Baker Hughes Deepwater Engineer Daniel Fakunle will provide a geographic overview for the various treatment philosophies, along with some suggested industry best practices for seawater injection systems.

He will also discuss various challenges, including” plugging due to suspended solids and bacteria, deterioration in well injectivity, corrosion effect of injection water on the injection system, scaling effects of seawater injection when used in conjunction with produced water re-injection, reservoir souring, offshore space limitations, and incompatibility of treatment chemicals with processing facilities.
