LONDONAzonto Petroleum says the Côte d’Ivoire government has approved a revised development plan for the shallow-water Gazelle field.

The company has a 35% stake in Vioco Petroleum which operates the surrounding offshore block CI-201, 30 km (18.6 mi) southeast of Abidjan. The government also awarded a 25-year exploitation license in December.

Vioco has assigned a pre-engineering contract for the offshore facilities, export pipeline and onshore plant, with a firm execution budget to be agreed during the current quarter.

As for the associated power project, CI-Energies has received bids in response to a tender for the supply of power generation units and related transmission infrastructure. The schedules of the gas plant and power plant are being aligned and Azonto expects to take a final investment decision on the Gazelle project during the first half of this year.

Evaluation continues of the Hippo North prospect, 7 km (4 mi) from Gazelle in 70 m (230 ft) of water, and the partners have identified a slightly deeper objective and a suitable drilling location. The well can be executed as part of the Gazelle development drilling campaign.
