TORSHAVN, Faroe Islands – Statoil and its partners have relinquished three exploration licenses offshore the Faroes.

In L006, where the other licensees are DONG Energy, ExxonMobil and Atlantic Petroleum, two exploration wells have been drilled. Well 6104/21-1, Brugdan, was drilled in 2006 and well 6104/21-2,Brugdan II, was drilled and completed in 2014 as a dry hole.

The same partners in license L016 performed geological studies but drilled no wells. This also applies in L011, where Statoil’s partners were ExxonMobil and OMV.

Faroese hydrocarbons division Jarðfeingi says it still sees potential in the acreage and will promote it to other potential licensees.
