TEHRAN, Iran – Khazar Exploration and Production Co. (KEPCO) has completed production testing of a second exploration well on the Sardar-e-Jangal oil field in the Iranian sector of the Caspian Sea.

The first well was drilled more than two years ago. According to news service Shana, the second well was drilled to a depth of 3,500 m (11,480 ft). Tests were performed to establish pressure and temperature, oil and gas recovery rates, and other production parameters.

Sardar-e-Jangal could hold 2 Bbbl of oil in place, of which 25% is thought to be recoverable.

In the Persian Gulf, the newly installedSouth Pars gas field Phase 16 platform has entered service. This is the nearest platform to Iran’s maritime border with Qatar, Shana says.

Phase 16 and the associated Phase 15 are now 95% complete. When fully operational, they will supply 40 MMcm (1 bcf) of sweet gas to Iran’s gas grid. Total costs for the two phases are more than $5 billion.
