DOHA, Qatar – Gulf Drilling International (GDI) says its latest new jackup has been accepted by client Qatar Petroleum (QP).
Dukhan, delivered to the Middle East in August following a dry tow from Singapore, was built by Keppel FELS Shipyard. It recently departed the NKOM Shipyard in Ras Laffan en route to its first offshore location.
This is the ninth offshore jackup rig in GDI’s fleet and the third contracted to QP, following theAl Doha and Al Zubarah. While undergoing final commissioning and testing in NKOM Shipyard, various third-party equipment was installed and drill pipe loaded onto the rig to achieve the company’s final acceptance.
GDI CEO Ibrahim J. Al Othman said the inspection and acceptance process went smoothly, allowing drilling services to start earlier than anticipated.
Dukhan has a 75-ft (23-m) cantilever outreach, accommodation for 150 personnel, high volume centrifuges, high capacity for bulk mud treatment, and the capability to drill wells up to a depth of 30,000 ft (9,144 m).
