ABU DHABI, UAEGulf Marine Services has won its first contract for its new self-propelled mid-size vessel GMS Shamal, which is under construction at the company’s quayside facility in Abu Dhabi.

On completion in 2Q 2015 it will proceed directly to its first charter for a national oil company in the MENA region, supporting well servicing operations. The contract is for five years (two years firm with three one-year options).

The vessel is of a new design which has been adapted to suit the client’s needs and also serves as a well intervention unit. Modifications include installation of pumping equipment and gas lines, enlargement of the onboard brine capacity, and optimization of the crane configuration.

GMS Shamal can support high deck loads and is equipped with a multi-move jacking system combined with DP II maneuvering to ensure swift, frequent, and safe movement between offshore wellheads, GMS adds.
