RIO DE JANEIRO -- Petrobras has authorization to start up the early production system of well 2-ANP-1RJS on the presalt Santos basin Búzios field (formerly known as the Franco area).

The company expects to maintain operations for around seven months, providing information for optimizing the field’s first definitive production system.

Búzios is 200 km (124 mi) from the coast of Rio de Janeiro in a water depth of 1,600-2,100 m (5,249-6,890 ft). Petrobras submitted its declaration of commerciality for the field last December.

The company has already conducted 3D seismic studies over the field and drilled 11 wells to delimit andcharacterize the reservoir, which contains good-quality 26-28° API crude.

Búzios accounts for the bulk of the volume acquired by Petrobras via itstransfer-of-rights agreement with the Brazilian government for the Santos basin presalt layer fields (3.058 Bboe out of a total of 5 Bbboe).
