TOKYO – The construction vessel Aegir has installed the riser support structure (RSS) tower at the INPEX-operated Ichthys field in the Browse basin offshore Western Australia.
The 6,500-metric ton (7,165-ton) structure – once its arch is in place – will extend 110 m (361 ft) from the seafloor. The completed RSS will provide fixed support for flexible risers and dynamic umbilicals that will connect subsea gathering systems toIchthys’ semisubmersible central processing facility (CPF) being built in South Korea.
TheAegir arrived at the field in mid-October to begin the pipelay, as well as the RSS installation. This will be a continuous 12-month program that will include the subsea manifolds, around 41 km (25 mi) of flexible risers and pipe, and roughly 141 km (87.6 mi) of rigid flowlines.
