Helix contracts Damen for MSV Seawell upgrade

Helix UK has contracted Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen for a major upgrade on the MSV Seawell, a light well intervention/dive support vessel. The Seawell is expected at the yard in the latter part of December.

VLISSINGEN, the Netherlands –Helix UK has contracted Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen for a major upgrade on the MSV Seawell, a light well intervention/dive support vessel. The Seawellis expected at the yard in the latter part of December.

The upgrade includes an exchange of all six gensets, including new foundations, overhaul of all thrusters and azimuths, and the replacement of two cherry pickers and the existing twin slewing cranes by a new single boom 50-metric-ton (55-ton) crane with active heave compensation. All switchboards will be renewed, and the accommodations will be dealt with thoroughly.

The existing deck will be demolished and a new derrick installed with all associated equipment. Adjustments will be made on the functioning and operation of the moon pool doors, winches, and other equipment.

Statutory docking will also begin during this refit period.
